Why do we keep being taken by surprise by pressures that we know full well are coming?

Dear reader,

In Denmark, we are European champions when it comes to organisational change!

We merge, restructure, digitise and streamline. And we’re happy to set new changes in motion before the old ones have fully taken effect. But how good are we, really, at anticipating and preventing the pressures that come with them? And why do we keep being taken by surprise by pressures that we know full well are coming?  Rikke Høgsted and Rikke Sørensen raise this question in a new feature article in A4, in which they call for an active focus on health and safety before, during and after organisational changes.

And we’re not just calling for action!

We are currently putting the finishing touches on MentiRisk, a new dialogue-based tool designed to make it easier to identify risks, assess them and take preventive action before harm occurs.

On 8 December in Odense, we will unveil MentiRisk at the seminar “Identify Risks – and Prevent Harm Before It Happens”, organised in collaboration with Seminarer.dk.

Here, participants are given access to the tool and the opportunity to try it out in practice.

Read the feature article and come along to the theme day!

Enjoy the read!

Best regards,
From all of us at the Institute for Strain Psychology

OPINION PIECE: WORKPLACE RISK ASSESSMENTS CONDUCTED AFTER ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES ARE OFTEN LIKE A POST-MORTEM: THEY REVEAL WHAT WENT WRONG WHEN IT IS ALREADY TOO LATE

Mergers, cost-cutting measures and new ways of working can have a significant impact on the psychosocial working environment. Yet action is often only taken once problems have already arisen. In an opinion piece also published in A4 Arbejdsmiljø, Rikke Høgsted and Rikke Sørensen argue that risk assessment should be an integral part of organisational change.
