The Institute is to work on behalf of the Prison and Probation Service

It is with great humility and the utmost respect for people that we at the Institute of Stress Psychology are now officially embarking on a long-term collaboration with the Prison and Probation Service and the Prison Officers’ Union, so that staff in Denmark’s prisons are provided with the best possible mental health support to cope with a psychologically demanding job involving many risks.

The initiative we are part of follows on from a number of other initiatives that the Prison and Probation Service, as an employer, is continually undertaking to look after its staff, who, more than anyone, have a mentally demanding job. Working on the psychological working environment is an ongoing and collective process that can make going to work safe, healthy and secure.

”Preventing PTSD and workplace accidents, and improving workplace culture, are key areas when we talk about a better working environment. That is why the initiative we have launched together with the Prison Officers” Union to address precisely these issues is incredibly important.”

This is what Ina Eliasen, Director of the Prison and Probation Service, has to say about the new prevention initiative being implemented by the Prison and Probation Service in collaboration with the Prison Officers’ Union and the Danish Association for Occupational Health and Safety (BFA).

The initiative focuses on PTSD, workplace accidents and workplace culture, and parts of it have been developed in collaboration with the Department of Stress Psychology – including an introductory film on psychological prevention – which is intended to provide knowledge and tools regarding psychological well-being and the prevention of psychological strain for staff within the probation service.

Thank you to the Prison Officers’ Union and the Prison and Probation Service for your trust. We look forward to working with you and to helping ensure that you are well looked after, so that you can continue to look after both the prisoners and the rest of us.
