What can the digital foundation course in psychological safety be used for? Is it relevant for our organisation? How is the course structured? And how can we gain the greatest possible benefit from it?
We have answered some of the questions we most frequently encounter from leaders, employees, and organisations. If you have any additional questions about the course content, outcomes, or format, you are very welcome to contact us directly.
To make full use of everyone’s abilities and talents – so that, together, you can create the best possible results for your target group.
The course provides an accessible and easy-to-understand foundation of knowledge about psychological safety.
It offers insight into what psychological safety is, as well as the positive impact of a high level of psychological safety. The course also clarifies what psychological safety is not, addressing and correcting common misunderstandings and misconceptions about the concept.
It explains why psychological safety is so important – and why it can sometimes be complex and challenging to cultivate in practice.
Finally, the course offers a wide range of ideas on how psychological safety can be strengthened, through knowledge, metaphors, and illustrations, as well as practical exercises and strategies.
The course takes a holistic approach to the topic, and we recommend that both managers and employees complete it together.
It creates a shared language through models, metaphors, and concepts, and ensures pedagogical consistency by providing the same learning framework for everyone in the organisation.
Yes – because the course addresses universal psychological and organisational phenomena.
At the same time, the course adapts to your organisation along the way – almost automatically. As you complete the modules, you gain the theoretical foundation, which is then translated into practice through reflection exercises at the end of each module.
In addition, the exercise catalogue allows you to decide exactly what your own “psychological safety training ground” should look like.
In this way, you tailor the course to your own context and everyday reality – while building on a consistent and professionally grounded foundation.
The course can be used:
• For internal training or themed days for entire departments, leadership teams, TRIO groups, or the occupational health and safety organization, e.g., as supplementary occupational health education.
• As a shared starting point for specific initiatives regarding, for example, sick leave, collaboration, well-being, and job satisfaction.
• As part of the onboarding program for new employees and leaders.
The course is relevant for all organisations, but is particularly relevant for workplaces where:
• the work involves unknown or unpredictable factors, and where collaboration and mutual dependence on each other’s input are essential to carrying out the core task.
• the work entails responsibility for decisions with far-reaching consequences – especially when such decisions must be made under time pressure and on a limited information base.
• the work is psychologically demanding, as this requires an especially high level of psychological safety in order to support one another and prevent the work from having negative consequences for mental wellbeing and health.
The course consists of an opening film, 10 video modules, and a Masterclass module.
The opening film can be used as a teaser and as an introduction to the topic and the course methodology.
Modules 1–9 consist of films that conclude with a reflection exercise, where participants are encouraged to take notes in the accompanying worksheet. Participants are then invited to discuss their own experiences related to the topic.
Module 10 provides an introduction to the Exercise Catalogue. It is recommended that this module be viewed together and followed by a discussion about which exercises and trial actions you wish to integrate into your daily practice in order to continuously strengthen psychological safety.
The Masterclass module consists of six short video segments, each accompanied by reflection exercises.
The course is designed primarily for in-person training but can also be delivered online. The running time varies by module. The opening film lasts approximately 6 minutes; Modules 1–9 range from 5–15 minutes each; Module 10 lasts 21 minutes; and the Masterclass module lasts approximately 14 minutes. The total video running time for Modules 1–10 is approximately 104 minutes.
The overall duration of the course will depend on how much time is allocated for reflection and exercises. Guidance on how to structure and deliver the course can be found in the course manual and programme outlines.

How is the material delivered?
The course materials are delivered electronically via a link that provides the unit/department with access to the content. Access is exclusive to the specific unit/department and must not be shared with others. The link is accessed using shared login credentials and includes the agreed number of licences – one licence per employee.
By agreement, the materials can also be delivered through a learning management system such as Plan2Learn or Campus.
The do-it-yourself principle activates your organisation’s own resources and makes it easy to tailor the course to local conditions and needs.
When the course is facilitated by your own employees, it naturally strengthens ownership – which often makes implementation smoother and more sustainable.
In addition, you avoid the cost of hiring an external consultant.
Working with psychological safety is, in practice, working with both the physical and psychosocial work environment. It should therefore be regarded as a natural and integral part of the organisation’s occupational health and safety efforts.
