HANDBOOK OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY

Do we dare? Can we afford not to?

PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY CHALLENGES THE LONELY “FEND-FOR-YOURSELF” CULTURE, THE UNCOMFORTABLE CULTURE OF FEAR AND THE JOYLESS “THIS-IS-HOW-WE’VE-ALWAYS-DONE-IT” CULTURE.

Handbook of Psychological Safety – Do We Dare? Can We Afford Not To? is an accessible book written for professionals in psychologically demanding jobs, although professionals in other fields will also benefit from the book. Psychological safety is particularly important when your work involves many unknown factors, when you are mutually dependent on each other’s input in order to complete tasks, or when you are responsible for decisions that may have far-reaching consequences for other people.

“The Handbook of Psychological Safety takes the reader on an exciting journey. A journey that combines carefully selected theory, compelling stories and insightful quotes, followed by practical tools and exercises that leaders and teams can use to create a workplace where the best solutions are developed and employees thrive.”

– Jette Albinus, Major General in the Danish Armed Forces

However, everyone can benefit from the book. It deals with universally human experiences and group dynamics across time and place, both in private life

and in working life.

“One of the book’s greatest strengths is precisely its practical approach … You don’t have to come up with a plan yourself – Høgsted has already done it for you.”
Jette Albinus
Major General in the Danish Armed Forces

From book to course – or the other way around

Handbook of Psychological Safety – Do We Dare? Can We Afford Not To? is based, both in form and content, on the Institute’s digital foundation course in psychological safety. The book provides a shared starting point and a standalone supplement to the course, where participants can practise psychological safety together with the colleagues and managers they work with every day to deliver their core tasks. Some start with the book – others with the course.
