Found new professional inspiration in a book, a film and a Folkemøde

Thank you for giving such a warm reception to the new book, “A Primer on the Psychological Working Environment and Crisis Management”

Dear reader,

June has been a month in which we at the Institute have both sought out and shared new professional inspiration – partly at the Folkemødet on Bornholm, and partly through a number of prominent experts who gave presentations at the book launch for Rikke Høgsted's new book “A Primer on Mental Health First Aid and Crisis Management”. We can already see – judging by the feedback and sales figures – that this book has found its way into many workplaces and homes. Here, it is helping to spark an important conversation about how we can better support one another when facing accumulated or acute stress.

Or, as Rikke Høgsted herself puts it: ”How, in peacetime, we can work together to build strong dykes so that they hold when the storm hits”.

Among the speakers at the book launch was the head of rehabilitation Ulla Leth from Odense Municipality and the sisters Zinnini and Kaya Elkington. Zinnini is the screenwriter and director of the film The second victim, which, at the time of writing, can still be seen at the cinema, and Kaya is a doctor and a PhD student. In this short video clip At the book launch, the two share their thoughts and motivations behind making the film.

Folkemødet 2025 – a strong focus on mental wellbeing in the workplace

Once again this year, the Institute sent a delegation to Allinge, where Rikke Sørensen took part in Social Insightthe debate event “Violence in the workplace – what can we do?”. Via the link below, Rikke shares her key points and explains what she found to be the most inspiring contributions from the debate.

“One of the things that made a particular impression was that one of the other panellists had herself experienced violence and threats in a specific work situation. She had come through it and was back at work, but had paid a heavy price for carrying out a task that was vital to society.” says Rikke Sørensen.

Faces at the Institute: LivA Stehr Nielsen

In this photo (taken at this year’s Folkemøde), a small group of Liva’s colleagues are lifting her up. But on a day-to-day basis, it is very much Liva, in her role as relations officer, who supports the institute’s administrative tasks. Liva is also studying business economics and psychology at CBS, and this very combination of her job and her choice of degree subjects fits perfectly with her keen academic interest in understanding how people interact in groups and communities.

Prevention Tool of the Month: From ‘Battlemind’ to ‘Vacationmind’

The holidays are drawing near, but for most of us there are still a couple of weeks to go before we can get up from our office chairs for a while and really relax. But how exactly do you go about doing that?

Rikke Høgsted and Simon Grund Sørensen from the Department of Stress Psychology have made a video in which they’ve put together their best and most practical tips on how to really switch off – whilst both respecting your own needs and making space for those you’re on holiday with to also have the chance to relax in the way that works for them.

We’ll be sending the video to newsletter subscribers in a special holiday bonus newsletter next week. So you’ll have these handy tips fresh in your mind before you (literally) pull the plug.
